They're privately owned and run it themselves, they can speak to and treat customers how they like, they have no-one to answer to - they must deal with tits everyday of the week, they have the right to sort the wheat from the chaff. For every whinging customer there's 10 happy ones. I worked in retail years ago and believe me, I had complaints about me to my manager, even made some chutney cry but 9 x outta 10 the customer is/was a tit
I've had AWFUl service from so called 'ace bike shops' in London, it's all down to the individual shop worker(s) at that time. That's life, if you don't get a decent service go somewhere else FFS
