Football is a completely different game to polo - why stick to its scoring system?

Rules change as games develop, happens with football, rugby, etc.
For a small thing like a festival you obviously can simplify it to get new people involved. But for leagues and tourneys and stuff, you might want/need more rules. If you'd shown this to someone in London five years ago, they'd probably wonder what the fuck was going on...
