I'd just like to mention that a great alternative to both Shutt and Rapha is the Lucipher brand of clothing. Lovingly handcrafted by gypsies in the heart of Pudsey sur la Mere, and made from 100% Sportzzcellophane™, these lightweight yet comfortable fixie/time-trial/awaiting trial garments are both cool on the bike and deliciously sweaty off the bike. Easy ventilation is achieved by simply tearing a hole where needed, a the easy application of a red hot iron mends any unwanted tears quickly and easily. Each garment comes on it's own easy-to-apply roll, and once dressed in the fashionable clear garment you will be the envy of your friends on the club run, pub run or dogging run.
I know the manufacturer personally, so if you're interested PM me your credit card details and leave the rest to me.
Anyhoo, I'm off for a ride in my Lucipher garments now.
The mums have just dropped off the kids at school, and they like a little treat of a morning. -

Just an update on this:
The guys at Shutt have sent me a brand new jersey when I had some of my pockets starting to rip out on my short sleeved one. They also went out of their way to send me some stuff with special delivery so I could have my arm warmers ready for the DD, no extra charge.
I think that makes for a good shopping experience. The arm warmers themselves are pretty nice, and seem to be reasonably priced in comparison to specialized ones for example.
Wore them on DD, together with the two short sleeved jerseys I had, and it was nice and comfy throughout the night. -

Sounds like a great brand this Lucifer is sportsarella made with merino wool?

@pascalo: the flipside...they kind of fucked me on the customer service. I ordered a jersey and they sent me the wrong size twice. Over a month later and after a fairly long-winded email exchange I finally got what I asked for. Probably wouldn't happen again, one would hope, but kind of put me off.
I think they were pretty happy to see the back of me too.

spybot: that must be annoying. would put me off as well, but I guess it's like with any other company, they're bound to get it wrong sometimes.

Their 'Coolmax Pro' bibshorts are apparently as good as the rapha ones, I might have to invest
-
• #64
Might I add, for half the price
-
• #65
I've just got a pair of the coolmax bib shorts, an LE jersey and a gilet and they're all very well made (in the UK.)
I got the wrong size of jersey and the customer service in organising an exchange was excellent.

might try them again when I'm feeling flush, hopefully they won't recognise my name!

mattha has the rapha and shutt bibshorts
he got rapha ones because he hated the shutt ones so much
am guessing cut etc will affect comfort
-
• #68
what did he hate about them? or was it just the cut
I'm no expert, if i get some they'll be the first proper pair I have, for long rides only, so looking to invest...

like all these things you get what you pay for
i have one pair of santini bibshorts
the pad has started to come away from the shorts, yesterday my nutsac was getting caught in between the pad and the material of the shorts, not fun at high cadences!
also the stitching has come undone
my rapha and assos bibs are all lovely
-

A quandary. Thanks for the advice!

He found the pad would get caught up around his man bits
kinda, yeah.
the pad is too small at the front - just long enough to curve around my junk so that the stitched edge points towards and chafes my pubic bone area and base of my cock. no amount of chamois cream helped.
using rapha now and junk is well looked after by their product.
apologies the detail but these things have to be said in the interest of our being informed and empowered consumers, right? -

oh also - stitching between two panels around lower ass/upper thigh starting to unravel. have only had them a few months and am kind of into fabric care when it comes to expensive kit so they get looked after when it comes to laundering. disappointing.

i have to say the standard shorts are revealing and are not a good look walking in to the office, my girlfriend can testify to that, (when out on the bike they are good value. I have the new winter softshell and it is good, it has come through the cold snap with flying colours and it thankfully washes ok too.
You utter, utter bastard andyp.
When I get down to London, I'm going to kick all your teeth out with my glittery stack heels.
