Nonsense.
They're blue because they stand out, and different from other separated road markings (e.g. red bus lanes - unless you think the red lanes are sponsored by Coca Cola).
Its just a colour on the road. Deal with it.
In fact if you are only bitching about the colour scheme of a network of cycle lanes in the city, I would consider that progress - at least the cycle lanes are actually there.
