  • penny skillzz

  • If your nuts are in the ford on one of those that's one deep river.

  • or a very saggy nut sack

  • haha, watch those spokes...

  • Has anybody managed to skid one?

  • It's in my diary, and I'll be there. Can't wait!

  • Does anyone, either with or without a penny farthing, want to ride in this race???
I have spot on a team but dont wanna race. I dont want to let down the other people in the team so thought I would try and finda replacement on the forum. The race is on September 5th and it only happens once every ten years, so is a bit of a historic occasion.
I know there are at least a couple of penny riders on the forum...does anyone know who they are so I can PM them direct??

  • Theres a couple of penny riders I've seen commuting on Old St before - a dapper dude in a suit (bet hes a hit with all the ladies and gay dudes lol) complete with briefcase on a full size black frame rides pretty fast.

The other dude dressed civvy and rode one of those eBay blue frame mountain bike style pennies.

    Good stuff.

  • seen old street penny fathers... brilliant

  • wow. WOW. i'm there.

  • Scratchy, I'm coming along to cover the event for the Guardian's Bike Blog - have you filled that place yet? I'd love to get involved.

  • I might come and watch... only just up the line in Cuddington... who is going and who will be riding fixed?

  • I'm riding fixed - on my penny in the race :)

  • Lol

  • Anyone want to go from East Anglia? Think I'll have to drive up from Norwich. Anyone need a lift?

  • Chapeau to Kat & Charlotte who won the ladies prizes (and the team event overall?).

I had my biggest penny crash ever when the bike I was drafting threw its tyre, collapsed and I went over the top of it...

    Oof!

Did you escape unscathed, or were you wounded?

  • No - that was just on the second lap - the chap in that broken both arms... (and the fast rider was disqualified).

My knee & elbow look like tenderised steak, but other than that, fine.

  • When was the fast rider disqualified? I saw him go round a fair few times.

  • He kept riding - and did the same number of laps as the eventually winner - but wasn't included in the final result

Thanks NG. We both had an utterly fantastic day of racing. What pure and unadulterated madness! And yes, we did win the overall team event at 104 laps.

Oh no. Did you do an 'imperial crowner'? Glad you are ok. Where did it happen?

I saw this later on video. Shocking to hear the rider broke bones. I saw other crashes such as the NZ rider who hit the wooden barrier on the tight far corner. The noise was like a car crash. He bounced off and impressively got straight back on before the rest of us piled up. Fortunately the organisers had covered the steel points on the fence so he didn't skewer himself. I also saw chipped teeth, split lips and chins, a broken finger and other random scrapes and blood loss. It was amazing how pennies (original and replica) were disintegrating with the sheer force of rider power.

    Penny racing....FTW
