Got the SCCU 100 mile TT with fasteddy on Sunday. A 2min flat out hill climb = perfect prep. for 4hrs+ riding..
fasteddy is going for sub-4. I'm going hoping to finish.

The winner did it in a time of 1:32. Just saying.
Good luck on Sunday. You must be bonkers in the nut.

No, you need to HTFU.
Seriously, there isn't much point trying to fine tune your gearing to suit conditions, since the out and back nature of TT courses means you'll be in the wrong gear at least half the time anyway. If you're interested in being in the right gear all the time, get a dérailleur. I used to obsess over fine gradations of gearing, but I've found that as long as I average between 85 and 90rpm (your cadence may vary) I'm fine. For that, I just need to predict my average speed and choose between the 15 and 16 sprockets.

You have 31 sprockets, and choose between the steel and aluminium piles? You're fucking obsessed.

No, he probably weighs 16kg and sits in front of a computer 90 hours a day.
Or something.

You have 31 sprockets
Oddly enough, I think I do have about 31 sprockets, between my two geared bikes and half a dozen single speeds plus some odd spares laying around.

• #1235
I thought geared bikes had cogs, not sprockets?

I wish you both good luck.
I look forward to hearing how you get on. If it's your first try at the distance at least you're guaranteed a p.b.!

what crank lenghts do most of you race on?? i caught my foot on a turn yesterday on 172.5,
I believe the only important consideration with crank length is what you feel comfortable with, and this will be determined mostly by the length of your legs. If you get overlap with the front wheel, I think you will find you get used to it fairly quickly even though it can cause trouble at first.
For what it's worth, my inside leg is 31 inches, and I am only really happy with six and threequarter inch cranks. (I had to write this out in full because the keyboard doesn't do fractions)
I make no apologies for the imperial measurements, but I will mention that 6.75" = 170mm.

Have ¾ for future use.

That's what I keep telling myself. I'll do it once, set a PB and I can leave it alone forever. :)

I set a course record today..
the "SCCU 100 + 6 miles riding in trainers on SPD-SLs" course record.
4:52 (I didn't even get DFL)
I'd usually say 'epic fail' since I was aiming for <4:20 but I actually had a really good ride (save for the massive shoe failure and additional 10k).
I can't walk now. 180k in skate shoes will do that to ya.
Massive thanks to fasteddy for putting me up and putting up with me.

You what?
-
• #1247
I left my shoes on fasteddy's driveway. So I rode the 100 in my trainers. I also took a wrong turn and added 10k to the course.

I think I'll only need a couple of months solid physio in order to move this knee again..
