2 water bottles
back pockets: tubes, food
saddlebag: food, tools, socks, batteries
not sure: arm warmers, waterproof, wee towel for the beachI use two water bottles, saddlebag (tools, tubes, pump, some food) and then carried arm warmers, gilet, leg warmers and the remaining food in a small camelback which made the load on my back very light (and getting lighter as you eat the food/put on the clothes)
A good quality backpack, like a camelback will help as they are comfortable.

Damo, you can probably borrow mine - can't confirm until next week though (when I get my saddlebag)

I'm going to try to squeeze food, clothes and spares into a saddle bag and jersey pockets. Don't want to fanny about with panniers or rucksacks...

Pack light, ride fast, get to the food stop before the queue is more the 40 people long.
Job done.

Pack light, ride fast, don't stop, turn around, have breakfast in London. Eating is cheating.
N.B. I do not endorse this.
-
• #58
pack heavy, ride slow .
i will have panniers full of pork pies, ham sandwiches, coleslaw, lashings of ginger ale, a roberts radio, a small picnic table, an umbrella.... im basically gonna look like miss armitage's bicycle, only more stealth. -

Pack HTFU supplements!

A bar of HTFU would just be a hand that popped out of the wrapper and gave a slap before scurrying off into the hedge row.

So, the [strike]bus and[/strike] van won't be at the start of route? Would've been great to leave your bag and pick it up at the end.

I've generally got on fine on the DD with just a CatEye OptiCube, but I can see quite well in the dark.
CatEye Opticube worked great for me the last two or three years. Unfortunately I dropped it and I think the lamp broke! Now I'm using a less bright LED which will just have to do.
Actually, I've never found it that dark on the DD, except for the odd tree lined bits.

Sun cream. For when you fall asleep on the beach. (Seriously, my calves almost fell off after napping in the early morning sun.)

Will I get away with track mitts, rather than full gloves (looks a warm-ish night)?
gets cold at night...and riding for a long time....so blood leaves the outer reaches...l

I had no probs last year wearing track mitts - I guess it depends on your circulation :-)

Planning on stuffing as much as I can into pockets rather than take a bag, although going to check gear tonight as I not sure ten ginsters pasties, a bottle of pop and some jelly and ice cream will fit.Must remember to charge lights too to avoid idiot moment when replacing flat battery with another flat battery like 24/12 last year.
