supposedly £295.00 rrp, but i'll check that with my trek rep later in the week
-
• #828
£295 is it?
excellent, it even got eyelit for mudguard which is a bonus.

and pannier rack, but it is hi-ten, so it may not be the lightest thing about but for the reliability and the after sales from trek definitely worth it

Evans do ship to Sweden, Wiggle too...
I have the Bad Boy disc, year 2006 model I believe. SRAM gears.
The Bad Boy is bumpy as hell with hard tires. I've been riding some on my girlfriend's Crescent Valkenburg (steel), and it's a far more pleasant ride.I've pretty much settled for the KHS Flite, but it seems I can only get 55cm.
These are the sizes for the 55cm: 55 c-c / 58.5 c-t/ 56 toptube.Compare that with:
And I believe it is on the small side. What do you think?
The seat tube length is 58.5cm for the Flite 100 and 57cm for the Pista Steel I Tried.
Top tube is the same for both (56cm) -

but it is hi-ten,
Are you sure young Skywalker? I think you are trying your Jedi mind tricks again.
Hi-ten steel, is normally plain guage steel. This is a poor cousin to cro-mo.
For a steel to be called Cro-Mo, means that it is actually a Chromium-Molybdenum mix. 4130 is a very basic version, and Reynolds 831 is nearer the top of the tree.

There are several other bikes that compete with the KHS Flite 100, on looks, price, and also its steel make up.
Lovely little bike, that Crescent. I'll be adding it too to the Foreign OTP thread.

yep, not cro-mo just plain gauge hi-ten steel, not 531 awesome™

In that case, you are right. That very basic steel will result in a rather heavier bike.
Not many bike makers resort to that grade of steel anymore. But I suppose to save cost, and offer at the lowest possible price point..........

Maybe depends if you want an ongoing project or simply want to buy something and forget about it..?
I recently had my commuter/hack bike completely written off in a crash and have gone through a similar(ish) process to you in trying to replace it. For my budget, it seemed to boil down to a decent frame and cr@p parts, or a cheap frame and useable parts. In the end I've gone for a Fuji Track. You can pick one up new for £350 but I'm spending around £350 immediately on upgrading parts along with a few bits and pieces I have lying around. When budget allows, I hope to transfer the parts to a decent frame, rebuild the Fuji with the stock components then sell it on.
So long the bike is a decent fit, you'll end up "growing into" your bike anyway. I bet there's one of these you really "want" - whether it's the best for you or not - just get that one?

coming soon

Shame about the clearances on that gritty - doesn't quite look right at the back. guessing there's barspin clearance at the front? (although i would never use it...)
love the finish though (those gussets are nice) and the bmx finishing kit - plus it's 419 dowrar? sweet.
ah just read it's hi-ten - fook that right off bet its awful to ride.

Yeah, do that. It's a decent bike for the price, but it has some things that aren't as well built as the rest. Saddle is really cheapish (but a brooks would look good on these), pedal cages (not the right word?) broke on the first day.You guys have any thoughts about the size of the 55cm bike? Top tube length seems a tiny bit longer than it should, if anything. But perhaps I could adjust that with a shorter stem, even if I got my hands on the larger one (57).
Regarding the c-c.
It's about three centimeters off on the seat tube range (from the competitive fit) from what I see. Seems quite a lot to me, but I don't know much about these things. Perhaps it's just easily adjustable by seatpost, perhaps not? Damn my long legs. There are several other bikes that compete with the KHS Flite 100, on looks, price, and also its steel make up.
Any special you're thinking of? Fuji Feather/Track Classic? So long the bike is a decent fit, you'll end up "growing into" your bike anyway.
What do you mean by "growing into"? Getting used to? -

What's wrong with the clearance on the back? it look perfectly fine.
hi tensile doesn't mean it'll be awful to ride, just that the frame is heavier.
-
• #840
Has anyone seen these about? My brother found one in Spitalfields' Evans branch...
Nice components for OTP...
my friend has two, the bottom of the range and the top, i had a ride, there really nice to ride i found, not perfect but not to bad at all
for an otp there not to bad.

That's the wheel as far forward as possible in the dropouts, think it would look better closer. Just my opinion.
Every hi ten bike I've ridden, which is a handful of MTBs and BMXs, have all had the same harsh, dead, jarring and heavy feel. Just my experiences.
for the record tho like i said, the bikes looks real cool, if they were doing a butted cromo one reasonably priced I'd probably buy it. Would make a great play / canal / city bike. not if its hi ten though.

the reason why it have a bit of a clearance at the back is because of mudguard clearance.
and for some, if it got clearance for mudguard, that mean it got clearance for 32c (or higher) tyres.
-
• #843
point taken, at another look the clearance really aint as big as i thought.
-
• #844
and if you fit 32c (or maybe bigger tyres) the frame material is irrelevant in terms of comfort. Unless you are one of those princesses who can feel a pea under their mattress...

2010 langster
-
• #846
The Langster Steel looks good, but I'm such an incurable fan of black.
The "standard" Langster has the weird geometry and a bit more modern look, which I do not like. -
• #847
it is black http://www.evanscycles.com/products/specialized/langster-2010-road-bike-ec019547
there is a lot of snobbery towards it on this board, but i like it

Messy, I edited my post to clear things up at the same time as you seem to have submitted your post.
-
• #849
Rather have thinner tubes too.
-
• #850
ok fair enough
It even got old style seatpost.
I like it if the price is very low.
