Tall riders can still ride small bikes, small guys can't ride bikes that are too big, so it wouldn't surprise me if the Mavic car had smaller frames in general...or maybe they had just run out of larger bikes......I've often wondered just how often the Mavic bikes are used, you don't see it often, but maybe it's because they are most often used right at the back of the race for riders whose team cars are up the road and it's purely a measure to allow the rider to stay in the race rather than retire / get eliminated.
