  • Thank you. A mate mentioned the project to me yesterday. I'll certainly check it out. Cheers!

  • Hey Shoosh. Appreciate you saying 'Hi'

4-5 years is a long time. Have you been able to do much activity in that time?

Confidence is also a challenge for me. I'm feeling a lot more weary as it only took seconds to do damage that I may have long term problems with.

So how are you building up your confidence? Laps around Vicky Park?

Anyway, hope you continue to recover/heal. Have a good start to the weekend.

  • I've been almost sedantry in that time. To build up my confidence I started with a few laps in the local park (I'm further east than Viccy park) and then quiet side roads. Once I stopped panicking when a car overtook me (usually involving me stopping until it had gone by) I felt things were 'doable'. I set myself a circular route, originally about 2 miles, and have gradually been increasing every week. I still stop if i feel uncomfortable when things pass me, but little by little the panic is reducing. In essence: Practice, practice, practice. And when you think you're done, practice more.

  • Hello Monsieur/Madame Shoosh. (You gotta be careful around here) I'm very interested to know what kept you off the road for such a long period. Was it a head injury? The reason I ask is that I have near-divorce proceedings once a month arguing about bicycle helmets with my wife.

  • Dear Miss Tellerbones, Largely healed is good - best of luck. An evening MRI sounds good too: it means private insurance. How much are you worth? Are you single er.. I mean fixed?

  • Interventor

    Thanks for the laugh/smile :)

Getting an MRI means I know how to push for what I need/want. It was courtesy of the NHS. I was in the waiting room for two hours sipping on HM'S finest government juice not Pellegrino!

First time back on the bike yesterday, was a little nervous but I felt great after. Then the whole day in a bike shop learning the basics.

Is it the case that you don't wear a helmet? If so, what is the rationale behind that?

What has the weekend been like for you? Hope it's been a good one.

  • Thanks East End Images. Good weekend?

In terms of mechanics I have managed to get myself two placements over the weekend.
The road is long but I think it is the best way for me to go seeing as I am broke and cannot afford a £900.00+ course.

Thanks for the links. Hope some of those places offer free cycle training. Think it would definitely help to brush up and boost confidence after having had an accident.

    Thanks again.

  • Miss Bones! I don't do bicycle helmets. Never did, Never will. Loathe 'em. Don't wear a pedestrian helmet either. I only wear a helmet in bed when necessary: the best contraceptive ever.

Helmets have no advantage for me: very thick skull. I'm just being considerate to the pathologists: when the juggernaut of doom eventually rolls over me, there'll be no bits of plastic to dissect out at post mortem.

  • Oh Yeah, cycling... Well Saturday was an 8am start 30 miler around the Broads: Tunstead, Wroxham, Salhouse, Upton, Acle. Started to rain/bucket so had to dive into a boozer at 10am. Oh no there's a full English breakfast for £4.95 and a POOL TABLE! The punishing schedule as a top athlete had to take a back seat. Yum!

    Superb contribution!

I would argue that consuming a fry up, drinking alcohol and playing pool is part of the natural schedule that one has to endure as a top athlete.

  • sorry shoosh, I'm struggling with image uploads. I'll try to find summat good. [/IMG]
