I have never belittled Thatcham, in fact I have said of my respect for their testing measures, and the fact that
they are so well backed by the insurance industry. Pity that they test mostly for automobiles, and not at all for bicycle locks.
I have definitely said that I find the SOLD SECURE system of rating to be highly questionable.
Here is evidence of GOLD rated locks, that I feel will NOT properly protect bikes.

ABUS City Chain 1060/110 (10mm links) - easily cut
Abus Granit Steel-O-Flex 1000 (25mm shell, ie. hollow cylinders, not solid steel) - easily cut
