HAHAHA - You, Rambob, are going through a LOT of threads then!

    Welcome to the forum:-)

  • CHEERS - I got the time.

  • Where you based Rambob? You riding?

  • I used to 'ride', not as much now, just a city commute from n16 to w1 and the odd dagga run

  • living close to lake constance, it's mainly flat around here. The fixed gear is attractive to me because it might be all I need. rode 2 shitty conversions for a few months and now it's time to build a proper one. thank you for this community.

  • Chuffed to have found this general welcome thread. I've been spending ages on this site, picking up tips and whathavya. Having some laughs. I bought my first ss/fixed about a month ago and I'm totally smitten. I'm obsessed actually. Riding between 60-90 miles a week, to work and just fun rides around in my spare time. Having the most amount of fun. Haven't tried fixed yet though. BUT - I'm already thinking of my next bike, upgrading, then planning on building one from scratch...this is seriously addictive stuff...I forgot how much I love cycling.

  • Hello.
Been looking around this forum quite a bit over the last couple of weeks, thought I ought to sign up and maybe get involved a bit.
Am very much just starting out with the whole thing; I started a new job about 9 months ago and thought it'd be a neat idea to get a bike, having not ridden since I used to do a paperround when I was 13 or whatever, and knowing (somehow) about the whole fixie thing I knew I'd have to get one of those - the whole idea of it, the approach or attitude just totally appealed to me, how it's serious about cycling, and fixing up bikes and doing stuff yourself, but with a flippant, potentially hilariously pretentious yet also self-aware dimension to it all. Also I am an insufferable wannabe-fashionista, so I needed something to go with the American Apparel track jacket and lame cycling cap (actually I got the cap when I bought the bike, but they were pretty much a package deal). So I have a 2010 Langster, not only was it the first time I'd properly ridden a bike for 10 years but the first time I'd ridden a hilariously light proper road bike with thin tyres and steep head tube angle and drop handlebars and everything, had it on freewheel for the first few months while I got used to not falling off and getting blown sideways in crosswinds etc., then got it 'fixed' about 6 months ago. I always wanted to get into the maintenance/fixing stuff up side of things, and enjoyed continually finding ever more ways in which I'd been taking terrible care of my bike (wait, you have to pump the tyres up?), and am now starting to do more serious (and vaguely terrifying) things myself as opposed to taking it in to the shop - first proper thing I've done is tighten the chain tension up (that thing had stretched a worrying amount, and is probably fucked) but now I'm in the process of buying a bunch of new bits which I'm planning to fit myself. I'm hoping to post up a bit of a 'before and after' in the OTP thread when I get round to taking some pictures.
Anyway I hope to stick around on here a bit, it seems a pretty neat place. I'm currently in Leeds, might be moving to Manchester in a bit, but in any case I hope to get involved with things in some kind of way. We'll see. I don't like the internet much tho, but hey, so it goes. Anyway, hi guys.

  • welcome.

  • Hey ya'll,

New to all this, finally got around to stripping the gear shifts and derailluers off my Giant MB, so apparently I'm allowed to call myself a single-speeder. Will make the holy transition to fixed at some point, I promise!

My usual commute takes me from the lovely north-eastern suburb (Olympic/Westfield building site) of Stratford to Old Street. Anyone else share a similar route? Can't say I see many single-speeders/fixed out my end of the woods.

  • I bought a cheap bike (first in 20 years) to get me to the station and back and now, 3 weeks later I have this weird compulsion to strip it to the bare minimum and make it a fixed gear. What's going on? And have I come to the right place?

Sorry mate, we mostly moan about the cops and post pictures of crumble.

Which is better than pie, by the way.

Phew! I'll dig some rhubarb out the misses allotment

  • newish to the site could do with braking in a bit though...i like to wearing jelly shoes and rock a slack chain now and then but i will try my best not to upset you all too much.
    neat!

  • Hi.

Been lurking a while picking up tips, and decided to take the plunge into the world of singlespeed.
Purchased a Charge Plug Griffin, which although seems to be criticised for it's weight, is a great deal lighter than my previous Carrera hybrid.
Love it to bits, makes my commute much quicker, and I was surprised to find, easier.
Already swapped out the dodgy pinkish Camo saddle and nasty plastic pedals for some nicer items.
