  • New TfL thames crossing plan -cable car
Wonder how many bikes can fit in a cable car?

  • It'll never get off the ground.

  • It'll never get off the ground.

You've let yourself down there Will, you've beaten Oliver to a pun, the forum has hit the skids.

  • not really a pun is it?

    cable cars rock though!

    that's not a pun either.

They did in Where Eagles Dare...

  • As Long as "Jaws" from the Bond films is not around...the Cable will be safe.

  • awesome idea

  • Does this not just sounds like a pointless waste of money though? It'd be cool and all but who's actually going to use it except for a novelty?

  • cool?

Could work like the london eye and attract tourists and make money, as well as serve london commuters (who could use an oyster card) who do need another thames crossing in east London.

time scale seems tight though it does make sense to aim for the completion by the olympics.

what planet are you on? tourists would love it, have you been to the south bank recently?

  • "the cable car could provide a crossing every 30 seconds"

EVERY 30 secs....sounds like bollocks to me.

  • It's a great idea, one of the main problems with transport in London is river crossings... I worry a bit about 'could' take bikes and must accept oyster pay and go (suggesting not zonal travel cards?!), but it's generally a great idea.

Nb, if you look at the PDF jaw posted, there's a feedback form in case anyone has some opinions thay want to give to tfl

  • Beanpie, 30 seconds isn't hard, you just have cars every 30 seconds along the cable... I don't understand why they don't just have a continuous car that goes all the way along the cable?!

  • what, like a suspension tunnel?

  • ^^ a bridge you mean !! ;-)

  • What London really needs is a monorail.

  • Hey, I hope I'm wrong but I can already see a whole heap of problems with trying to get people safely out of the car and then another lot safely in, inside of 30 secs. I'm thinking that the cars need to be constantly moving to keep to that kind of timetable. It takes longer than that just to fill the lift at Covent Garden underground station...then someone doesn't stand clear of the door etc etc etc. I won't pretend I gave it a lot of thought but at first glance I see fail.

  • Lmfao!!

what does lmfao mean by the way ?

  • what, like a suspension tunnel?

Only moving, so more like a suspension travelator...

The trouble with bridges is it has to go up pretty sharply if the entrance is going to be a 2 story building but it's going to cross at over 50m...

What's the difference between a train and a monorail (other than the number of rails obviously?!)

LMFAO - Laugh My Effin Ass Off?

    and yeah this post LMFAO!

  • Oh beanpie, have you ever used a cable car?! They tend to use a rotating platform and do indeed get people on with out the car stopping. As the cars are a few seconds away from being 50m above the Thames I doubt people will hold the doors open! :)

  • what a crock of shit.. why? do we need a cable car to win some transport award or something? why not spend the money fixing the holes in the road?

    *ah its private not government
