but when sprinting from London to Paris it is all about function over form. Give me a new fangled carbon framed thing for that.
I did Paris to Blackpool last year on my 60s Hetchins curly and old steel is definitely the way forward for long distance rides! The only annoyance was 10 speed down tube shifters compared to others on fandangled 20/30 speed sti lightweight machines meant it was hard to keep pace with a couple of the really strong riders as my ratios fell awkwardly, as for comfort though my arse definitely appreciated the smooth, forgiving steel.

Yeah, what tyres? I recently tried to order a pair of Veloflex Paves and was a bit disapointed to find they are now called Masters and have a rubish logo. Still well stoke on them tho.
Mine's the Deda RS Corsa, not as good as the Pave, but it's defintely up there, plenty of grip even in the wet.

^ I have those DA brakes.
The lever on the left is ingenious, when i leave my bike for a couple of mins outside the village post office whilst i pop in for some damson jam (in leafy hertfordshire), i push the lever down and it acts as a handbrake. Even Hoy couldn't pedal with those levers down.

Huh? It's a quick release so if you're running bigger tyres you can get your wheel out - think you've got yours set up a bit wrong ! ha ... hey, if it works for you.

it's just my brake cables are quite toit, and i only run one pair of wheels so never change. It's nice to know its real function though, thanks.

The red ones are carbon thats why they took so long to find the frame is a 2005.

the idea is you have the lever down when you pull the cable tight, so if you need to take the wheel out, you just flick the lever up and it gives enough room for the tyre to fit past.

You can loosen the brake by lifting the levers to the point that it's almost impossible to slow down even when levers is fully depressed.

this made me chuckle.
tbh though, if you don't use them in their correct way it makes fixing a puncture a bit awkward. Particularly if your cables are toit!

After coming back from the winter season in France, I was skint and after a couple of rides on my fixed bike realised there were problems . The driveside crank was cracked and the BB was knackered.
Now 3 months later I've just finished fitting the new chainset and taken it for a test ride - god i missed riding fixed!!
All i need to finish the project are a steep angled 1" quill stem, some nice deep track drops, a new chain and some white tape to replace the road items and cheapo white chain that are on the bike.
Any suggestions?

i think the chain ruins it. its a beautiful bike and the chain just kinda makes it look cheap and tacky. thats just my opinion though!

The bike i found the other day with wheels (700c hence huge clearances), bars and pretty much everything but frame and forks replaced with crap lying around in my garage.
Only expenses were new front tyre and cables.
It also rides surprisingly nicely. -

Yeah not overly keen myself on pink chain but thats what fi wanted and i think being a girls whip its acceptable and a bit of fun compared to her relatively plain commute.
