I cant help but think that both Cav and Thor, are a bit caught up with each other. They seemed to be watching each other too much and forgeting about everyone else. They are the fastest two guys out there, but not by a big enough margin that they can ignore other peoples moves. Especially after that incredibly fast last 15Km. The HTC tactics were disrupted, and everyone split. Neither Cav or Thor had the legs to rectify things. Thor said it straight out, after the race. He did'nt feel strong, he was just tired.
Much as I'd have liked a British victory, I was following EBH pretty closely too. The Norwegian commentators seemed to think he might save himself for a slightly longer/lumpier stage, for which he would be better suited. But they picked out his distinctive green shoes early on, moving up the pack.
Those last couple of km's were brilliant, and with an amazing amount of British and Norwegian interest all over the race. I'm enjoying this tour massively, and its only just started.
