To be clear on the exposed chainrings rule, it's not applicable to a chainring that is actually carrying the chain, it's in the case that you have 2 chainrings, and the outer chainring is not covered at all, so all teeth are exposed. The only example I can think of is Hannes with his Dingle speed set up.
