brotherhood? no way. i bought the two? albums and was so disappointed i charity shopped them off again.
hip hop as a genre of music simply isnt represented properly in the mainstream which is where everyone gets their ideas of music genre from. so skydancer not likeing it as a result of dizzie or anyone else in the maistream isnt a suprise. hell i hate it myself from what i hear as cars drive by or what the radio plays... but there is such a wealth of artists who rarely - never get play on mainstream shows because thats not what is selling. hip hop underwent a shift and id go so far to say that a sub genre got invented - hip pop. pop means popular in music terms and so if people buy the bling/bitch stuff you mention, then most people who are trying to get on and get paid are gonna go down the same route because its easy money (if such a thing exists ni the music industry) "making hits is easy, put an r&b bitch n the hook, there you go with a platinum cd" it becomes formulaic because thats what sells in the mainstream. but its not representative of the fuller picture...... having said that, the fuller picture was better and reached its peak around late 90's.
with a lot of new and emerging genres of music its easy to label certain aspects of it hip hop and this may lead folks to decide they dont like it much. the whole "urban" (puke) music thing is mostly a shame of sounds to my ears, but hip hop, nah i still love it.
i do say all this with both ears still in the past though. i rarely listen to modern shows anymore as im always left a bit confused. i know people hate westwood, but that guy and his show back in the mid 90's changed my direction in music, and for that he will always be a legend, despite not being a fan anymore.
basically i agree with the seldom killer (except on that one group, actually two, im not a kool keith fan either).
