@ dron - the GT250 was one of the bikes we used to ride at 17 on a provisional licence. Never ridden the 500, but I know they're nice bikes. Depending on your age and what licence you have, you could do the direct access course to get a full bike licence. Basically one day CBT, three days' tuition and a test. Lynx knows about this stuff, so maybe get in touch with him.
