I agree with both of you, hah.
If you have absolutely no clue, then try riding a geared bike to ballpark it is a good idea, you are still going to have to guess within 2-3 ratio's to take into acocunt the qualities of riding fixed anyway, so still might end up buying a few cogs before getting it just right for you.
If you have some idea already from the gearing you are currently using, then just buy a smaller or bigger cog. If thats not right, buy another.
At the end of the day, its not money wasted, because you can keep them and then gear your bike to suit where you are going to ride in the future. (Or bang one on the other side of the hub and flip the wheel as an when you feel like it)
I just stuck with the off the peg ratio on my Fuji.

If anyone is interested in old bits & bikes, according to Campyoldy there is a cycle jumble at Parrs Wood Rural Studies Centre, July 3rd, 09:00, free entry for buyers.

• #1516
polo wheelset/ bits anyone? ^^
-
• #1517
Unlikely, it's a regular event and on the one occasion I turned up, was mainly people selling 5 speed cassettes and old wheels at not cheap prices. OK if you have a vintage road bike, shite for everything else.
-
• #1518
^^+1. I've had a few bits to keep some old 27" road bikes going. Just putting it out there in case anyone fancied a rummage through some old oily bits, or to gaze at the eye-wateringly expensive vintage Claud Butlers / Jack Taylors etc. that turn up.

dont go to GHB for your paint job doing, get it done at North Manchester powder coating, costs like half the price.

sell it on ebay man! this one's got 2 days left and it's nearly on that:
If its too easy now put a smaller cog on, if its too hard put a bigger one on.
scott your range was from 65 -74 with your favorite being 70 so why suggest 75?
