I don't get the comparison, are you saying you should maybe buy an 80's crank and then make a mould of it and make your own copy of the crank. Put that copy on your bike while keeping the 80's one at home ?
Sounds like a lot of work

Too low tech.

Buy a 3D scanner and a 3D printer. Job done*.

(*not sure how strong the resin copy would be though)
