just an amendment, when I gave up the beer for three months, I was still cycling, pretty much every day, (only form of exercise) and I was cooking fairly healthily. And giving up the beer was more of an exercise in willpower, I'd done it for a couple of months before and lost the paunch and wanted to see what would happen over a longer period of time.
Obviously I then went travelling and am drinking beer all the fucking time, so the one pack has returned, but the rest of me is still relatively slimmer.
