[QUOTE=Damaged;1496160]So much bullshit and misinformation around "losing weight".
[*]Almost every single human on the planet can only lose 1-2lbs of fat a week - no exceptions. Anything else is water or muscle or stomach contents.
Not True. There are many people running so low on bodyfat, that 1-2lbs in a week would be impossible and may cause serious health problems.
Err.. that's what I said? I'm certainly not recommending an adult with e.g. 5% bodyfat to lose any more bodyfat or anyone to lose bodyfat unless they want to. It's general advice for normal people and pretty much universally accepted.
[*]There are no shortcuts.
Lipsuction, Diet Pills, parasitic worms, bulimia, Injecting Hormones or Heroin.
All of those won't work in the long term without a corresponding change in diet and physical activity. Perhaps i should have said that there are no shortcuts that work in the longrun. Jeez! :-)
[*]Everyone has a genetic predisposition to being an ectomorph, endomorph or mesomorph.
Just plain nonsense, the "morph" types are vast generalisations which can be meaningless for many people.
The morph types ARE vast generalisations and most people are a combination of more than one. It can be useful to know where you fall so as to structure a relevant training and diet plan. If you are an ectomorph or "hard gainer" aimong to gain muscle mass your diet and training plan would be totaly different to that of an individual who fits the mesomorph type. E.g. as an ectomorph, no matter what I do I will never have a powerlifters physique.
[*]Fat cannot turn into muscle, muscle cannot turn into fat.
True, but energy from excess fat can help build muscle. And also muscle can be broken down by body to use as fuel.
First part, not sure what you mean. Excess Kcal ingested from fat can be converted to muscle but you can't turn existing bodyfat into muscle. It's like turning base metals into gold.
Second bit; true. Particularly if you "crash" diet.
[*]Excess carbs do not get stored as fat - excess Kcal get stored as fat
What hippy said. Furthermore, Carbs can elevate insulin which is a powerful weight gaining agent.
[*]If you lift weights you need a lot of high quality Kcal, probably more than you realise, mostly from protein (containing all essential amino acids i.e. animal protein) to fuel muscle growth.
Hahahaha!!! Getting your calories from protein would be ridiculously innefficient, expensive and possibly lead to health problems as we all need essential fatty acids to survive. Essential amino acids do not need to come from animal protein (although it is favourable). If it did all the vegans in the world would be dead.
I didn't say getting your calories from protein. I said getting high quality (meaning skimmed milk, egg whites, lean white meats etc) MOSTLY from protein. Vegetable proteins don't contain all 8 essential amino acids individually so to get all of them in your diet you would have to combine different non animal products. It's really not a concern for most people, if your aim is growing muscle tissue (as i origionally said "If you lift weights", animal protein makes life much easier.

Wasn't expecting to have to think so much!
I hope vegans dont die. xx
