I find running compliments my cycling by using a slightly different muscle group. You just need to get used to running.
I buggered both legs up on the bike a couple of weeks ago. But found that light runs were fine. Going on these runs got me back in the saddle quicker. The opposite applies when preparing for a run. I can keep my fitness up, without straining my legs too much, by cycling instead of running.
