Have decided to do some 10's and possibly a 25 in August and September. Figure it is a shame to waste the miles I'm currently doing. Not raced for 3 years and not ridden a TT for considerably longer than that so should be interesting. Undecided on fixed, as pyschologically I'm worried about my back, but hopefuly that's what I'll be plumping for. So wher's a half decent course then I only know midlands ones!

Lycra shinguards?
Look like compression shocks buit that is the term - Hutch wore them in the 25 and 50. Most ridiculous item since skinhoods in the late 70's!

They are nothing to do with aero-dynamics. That is Jamie Pringle's input - compression socks apparently help the muscular performance...
-
• #1183
So they are just compression socks like Skinz or whatever?

I saw 12hr events in the calendar.. 12hrs on a TT bike..

A 12 hour... This really does destroy people..
BTW. Compression.. I wear compress sport quad guards when racing rather than the calf guards.. Can't see the benefit of calf guards when riding..

With great reluctance it has been decided to cancel the 2010 edition of the Ron Brown Memorial 100.
On the 4th July, the day of the race, the Alton and North East Hants Show (an equestrian event) is to be held at the Froyle Park Showground - just next to the start and in the middle of the course.
This will cause an intolerable amount of traffic and would make the time trial, at best, a dangerous lottery.
Therefore, in the interest of safety, and with a view to avoiding endangering the future use of the course, the organiser has decided the only option open to him is cancellation.

Ah, what?! And just after I'd done a 50 today and realised longer distance TTing is something I really really don't want to do?! It's almost as if I paid you to cancel it..
Seriously though, that sucks. :(

In a way I'm in a similar position since I was out as a result of my crash. However, I have a vague idea floating in my mind that, using the £25 fixed prize, we might have some kind of special club event at the end of the season.
I'm thinking of a sporting course, perhaps 30 -40 miles, using the roads which were once part of the Bath Road 100 north west of Newbury, going through Chilton Foliat, and then onto the Ermine Street (as used in the 10 championship in 2009).
Of course the committee dinosaurs may well veto the idea, but does this sound an attractive idea to any one here? -

Why not hijack the existing 26th Sept HCC001 race and put up a fixed prize in that? Designing (and getting DC approval for) a new course at this stage seems like hard work, whereas offering an all-comers prize in an already sanctioned club event should just be a matter for your own club's committee.
-

Because it wouldn't be hijacking - it would be just lying down in the road in front of it.
There are plenty of other possibilities - our open 25 or next year's 100 for example. No, if it could be done I'd like to create something different, interesting and perhaps worthy of having the Ron Brown name attached to it.
I hope to have some material about the remarkable Mr. Brown to publish here soon. -

Ah, I thought you were looking for something to spark some fixed interest, not something in which to contest the main prize.

Has anyone got any recommendations for aero bottles/cages?
I can't fit full bottles on the P-X and don't drink on 25s anyway so thinking aero bottle might be a useful addition - yes/no?
-
• #1198
Are you thinking about hydration or just the aerodynamic benefits?
-
• #1199
Aero benefits for 10s and 25s and on a 50 I'd drink from it.
-
• #1200
For 50s I use a Camelbak Hydrobak, can be worn under the skinsuit and may provide some aero benefit as well as being usable without getting off the tri bars.
I've got a Profile Aquacell which I tested once and didn't like, but YMMV. You're welcome to try it. Also provides some aero benefit with some frames, I gather.
For downtube mounting, I think you need to find something which follows the seat tube profile as closely as possible, the aim being to make your bike look like a Cervelo P4. The Specialized Virtue looks like the candidate, and it's only £12. For optimum aerodynamics, it might need some kind of adaptor to move it close to the seat tube.
