its been too long since i've been in japan.Nothing exciting - riding me bikes and teachin' at an elementary school.
I get to ride to work everyday which is good. And bike theft isn't a big problem so its cool here.
ahh. the dream job....
that's pretty awesome bro.
I tried to get myself a year in Sapporo this year. didn't work out.
I love the north island. -

This old Triumph is meant to become my wet weather and utility bike. I.e. mud guards, chain guard (if I can find one) and rack. Possibly a rack or basket on the front as well. What else goes for a wet weather bike? (I got the term from you guys).
Anyone want to suggest tyres for old 26 inch wheels? I get confused by the different numbers in parenthesis. And rims? Haven't decided whether I will get new wheels for it or not.
Oh and no puppies died in this process, nor was any saved. It's a frankenstein puppy more like.

oh and Brooks on a wet weather bike? a contradiction perhaps?

Not really, just put a bag on the saddle, and also work as a theft deterrent.
not heard the term 'wet weather' bike before, didn't think one exist in the first place.

Nice frame, first impressions are that mine is similar!
Will go take some photos of details later see if they match..my carlton continental is chrome and has traces of blue/green paint in the corners of the lugs. it was originally blue/green all over shiny chrome. it was the fashion in 1954. this is a pic of mine.

worth a conversion to fixed or should I keep it as it is??
does anyone know if the tubing is any good? stumbled upon this for cheap!
-
• #31141
Are those tubular tyres?
it's up to you really, high tensile tubing aren't exactly light, but my recommendation is to not worry about the tubing, just get a fixed rear wheel (or wheelset if it turn out to be tubular), couple change and bob your uncle.

Fixing it is almost mandatory, it's strictly beater territory so no point buggering about trying to keep the antediluvian dérailleurs running properly.

you know you could get slapped for using mavic super rare starfish crank on a beater?.. just kidding, not too shabby! :)
Yes he could..
I'm looking for a set of those cranks.. he should sell them to me.. :)

Wicked frameset! Nice ends ... This needs decals ... the existing colour's not that bad...
It's made by Dave Yates, I believe ... it needs his old style decals ... you could phone him and ask him - if he can ascertain it's one of his, he'll let you have the decals I reckon. You might want to ask Mario to apply them ('carefully please mario!') and put a layer of lacqueur over them ...
Just my 2p's-worth opinion though.
I always rather liked that frame when asm had it. Harry's pink spok was a bit much for me ... but hey, there's no accounting for taste.

speaking of starfish: this is a q bike (columbus slx) with full mavic group... not mine, pic taken at a friend's house

an aero frame for particularly top heavy ladies perhaps?
i think so yeah, i know its got some forum heritage but just cant remember who exactly.
wheelset is mavic cpx14s on condor uno hubs, really nice matched pair.
had the frame for a while now and i've just been waiting for a wheelset to get the ball rolling, not that i can afford to do anything to it at the moment (including buying the wheelset in the first place!). . .
