btw Clefty, where did you get the bottle holder thing you lent to Edmundro on the southend ride?
-
• #103
lycra definitely, but under my swrve shorts. The world is not ready for the sight of my arse in lycra..
@Charlotte - I think I bought it from wiggle or something like that, it's designed for runners, so they can put if on their bum bags or whatever - I can bring it along for you if you want - I never use it! -
• #104
That would be brilliant - thanks!

Most likely full Lycra for the ride then throw something decent over the top when we get to the beach.
I have a mental image of us all throwing our bikes on the shale and sprinting into the waves as soon as we arrive.
Soooooo excited about this!

Camel back for the water, that's what i'm doing - Ok girls, who's wearing lycra?
Is there anything else to wear? Lycra padded shorts with a running vest as I expect to sweat like a stuck pig. I'll bring a change of clothing just in case Mr Right version 3 makes an appearance/I'm completely sweat-soaked.
Two panniers, loaded probably as I seem unable to travel light but will try and one old Camelback (hope there are no bugs in the tube but will re-clean it). As much as my skin is made for the sun, I might beg a touch of whatever factor stuff is around, unless I can find a teeny bottle tomorrow.
I was worried about this ride before but am now getting excited especially as I got Babygirl (my bike) checked over this evening and she was given a clean bill of health for the event. Will have a p.r kit but with a 'manual' pump.
See you Saturday!

Found my last one on Brighton beach; due another by now I reckon

Are people bringing bags or stuffing their jersey pockets? I dislike having things on my back for that long (and I don't have any rack mounts) but on the other hand a few more supplies might be nice, especially if swimming is involved.
-
• #116
If there's the prospect of the next Mr Right maybe I will bring a pannier so I can tote him back to town.
My plan is to travel light, but that's always my plan. It's never worked yet.
-
• #117
I'm bringing a small pannier bag for food/stuff, saddle bag with tools/tube and a small tri bag on the stem to hold my phone and some all important jelly babies. It's gonna be hot, so definitely no bag on back for me.
I also managed to find a small travel bottle of factor 30 sun cream, its for kids - but that doesn't really matter. Found it in waitrose of all places. So I'll have that on me as well for those that need a top up.
@Charlotte, I have bungees - we could always strap him to a rack or two
-
• #118
I'll dig out my bungees too :-).
-
• #119
As I have no rack for pannier I'm bagging it (more boil in the bag). Also taking along swimmers definately having a dip, once we get to the beach.
I don't use sun block regulary so if someone could give me a squeeze, that would be wicked.
Also aside from lycra, which I am wearing, I think I'm gonna need a cap or sunglasses for this, will pick some up while I'm in evans today getting a new front tyre as I've noticed the one I'm currently running is covered in lacerations :s
-
• #120
@clefty I love the imagery that conjours!
I'm thinking of swinging past lmnh on my way to the shops for their free safety check today. Hopefully time will allow for it. The tyres on my bike are older than me :s
I'm going to buy more lycra I think. Will probably come out of Evans looking like a sky team fanatic.Cannot wait to be dipping my toes in the sea!
-
• #121
Was gonna take a bag but thinking it'll be too much af a sweat-fest. Have no pannier rack except on the tandem, though, and I ain't lugging that monster to the beach.
Although solves the "where to put the man" dilemma.
Hmmm.
Needs more thought.
I wore lycra on the commute today which I don't normally do. It felt GRRRRRREAT....there's a reason cycling kit's made out of the dreadful stuff.
-
• #122
I'm taking as little as possible ... just a saddle bag with tools and stuff, shot blocks, a couple of bottles, and a Rosie. Will need to be inventive on stashing the fig rolls ...
Will be wearing 'shy shorts' (Scheritts phrase for baggies over lycra) ... and will probably nick one of Aroogah's cycling tops rather than a cotton t-shirt (don't ask me for any fashion tips :p).
Clefty - well done with the organising of this, really looking forward to it. Knees are on ice in preparation!
-
• #123
Have sourced a rack for my road bike so I'll have a pannier y'all can stock up with fig rolls/flapjacks/tramp beers etc
