Regarding the OP: The argument I've used is: "Would you have turned left across the front of another car? Well in the eyes of the law, I'm the same as a car - so legally, you're in the wrong. It's that simple. And if you do ever kill someone, you'll be at fault. Sorry mate. shrug No point in arguing with me - that's just the law."
Seemed to work.
