stops you from getting off the mark as quick and makes it harder to balance. especially on one of them pogo stick efforts they sell at Toys R Us. any crap bike will do though, just no suspension and a low gear.

but Yoav your telling someone who is new to it to not use the cheap bike they have to come and play on.

it is totally acceptable to use that bike especially since your just starting out, no point buying even a cheap bike for polo and discovering its not for you.
