  • good diagram btw

    thanks :D

also do you have my long 5mm allen key from when you and ben were fixing his front mech?
i know its only an allen key but its from a set thx

  • hmmm probably....or ben might

  • did bb, thanks ronnie..now for trying to find a seatpost, crank bolt and a dril...hmmmmm

  • Anyone got a crank puller that works on cranks that ahve stripped the thread, or that piece of metal that the bike shop uses to get them off? I have two frames with stuck cranks, and need to swap them round haha

  • usually ride em off

  • I know, but as soon as u want one to come off by riding it it won't come off, and i've round off the insides of cranks that way

  • I'd try heating them up and prising them off, the two different metals expand at different rates so the theory goes

  • only just seen this thread, i've got a bearing puller if you need it, that's what you need to get it off..

  • Sweet do you rekon i could grab it tomorrow? would be really useful cos then i can play around with my cranks on both frames without having to go to the bikeshop everytime i wanna alter them. I'll swap it for your chainwhip? haha

  • dangeruss, that looks like some somethimg you'd use to remove something stubborn

see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bristol_Stool_Scale, cited before, nothing new, etc

  • TONIGHT!!!!!
Every 1st Monday of the Month
7.30pm Lass O Gowrie Pub, Charles Street
    This month:

(a change from what was previously billed)

    Le Velo

In the 70s, there was Merckx and there were the others. Ghislain Lambert
was one of the others. This is his story, a quite simple one. The story of
a modest Belgian bike racer. His greatest ambition in life? To become a
champion. His greatest tragedy? Not having the legs his heart deserves.

"Once again, BenoƮt Poelvoorde proves to us that he is a great actor. He
plays Ghislain Lambert, a second class professional cyclist whose role in
the team is to support the leader. Poelvoorde makes the jump from comedy
to drama and is able to play with our emotions. The movie shows us, in a
very realistic manner, the "backstage" of professional cycling, and at the
same time maintains its sense of humour. Don't worry, even if you're not
into this sport, this movie will never bore you...."

  • does anyone have a fixed cup tool? or a self made tool a la sheldon?

could do with borrowing one asap...

    cheers

  • is anyone any good with motorised vehicles?
need help replacing the clutch cable on my van

or does anyone know a nice mobile mechanic?
    cheers

  • When you planning to do it ste? I'll help but I'm not here for the weekend

  • that would be ace, il order a cable and then maybe do it next weekend then?
its old and simple so shouldnt be too hard

  • Cool I'll see what tools we need, do we need to jack it up or can we just do it from underneath?

  • think can just do it from underneath, i bet if i had a go i could do it on my own but proper mechanics scare me!

  • know what you mean, you kind of need a clutch to work a lot of the time, should we have a go at the brakes while we;re at it?

  • anyone have a shimano-splined bb tool i could borrow today/tonight? muchly appreciated

  • Hey, having a bit of trouble today, does someone know how can i remove a non-driveside square taper crank whose threads arent stripped just badly made, so i cant get a purchase on them with my tool?

    ride it off.

  • i cant ride it off because its on a frame, i havent even got a spare set of cranks handy

FIXED. I managed to re-thread the whole crank using this wicked drill bit and some floss

    jokes
    but i did it

  • Polly complaied that her bike was making noises, I had a go on it and found that the down tube has snapped just under where the top tube (?) meets it on her really odl step through frame, like this:

I guess it needs to be re welded. Anye suggestions of who to go to for this? or shall I jst go to BB and see what they say?

replacing the frame is probably much cheaper. its lugged isnt it? probably its only suitable for brazing, so the whole tube might need replacing and since its a odd shaped tube, again, it probably can't be done by most.

  • good point for once Scott!
woody youl get a frame like that for free somewhere, the toptube was dented too wasn't it so prop best to get another, you don't want poll riding around on a death trap!
