Im not acting the cunt. I seldom let my knees out on their own:) I wear bib tights every day. I wear knee warmers throughout summer.
You are correct, it may not be no float, I thought it might have something to do with it though.
It may well be I am pre disposed to arthritis they click like fuck until they are warm. I wasnt having a go, its all good in the hood, much love hippy!:) -

I've never used fixed pedals (cept for maybe a year with clips straps). I questioned it because I thought there were too many variables involved and I know some people who prefer fixed over float (freaks) so I figured fixed cleats can't affect everyone in a bad way. Maybe I could switch and when my knees pop out I'll agree ;)
Knee warmers (and trying to copy the Eadie goatee) were my 'thing'. I used to wear them in summer.. in Australia. (the knee warmers and the goatee) :) -

yeah, the goatee will help for sure

you can get your cleats measured and fitted , along with the rest of the metrics for your bike, at cyclefit
Cyclefit11-13 Macklin Street
Covent Garden, London WC2B 5NH
Tel: 020 7430 0083they will charge you for this service obviously, but if your knees are important to you then go for it.
I had sidi insoles made there due to foot and ankle pains, and they fitted the cleats correctly for me too, adding some inserts under the cleats so that the foot rotates correctly. It made so much difference, especially the insoles but the new cleat set up was great too.
They do full bike fitting too etc.. - call them to ask what they recommend. -

It may be down to finding a system that allows your foot to move around more freely and find it's own natural angle/position. I find Eggbeaters good for that, whereas other pedals gave me a feeling my foot was trapped into position too much.
+1, i had the same problem with Aliums, but the Eggybeaters let me float like a butterfly.
i hear speedplays allow this kind of 'slippery' feel as well. -

I've just started riding clipless so this may not be of huge value but I can fault the Look pedal/cleat system, they have cleats that allow for 0, 4.5 and 9 degrees of float, pretty useful idea, not sure how many (if any) other companies do this also.

Reds ftw

...but the grey goes with the pedals, it's the obvious choice!

reds all the way... i ditched the look keos though because i got fucked off with carrying and forgetting cleat covers all the time... at least the spdsl's have decent grip on the cleat and as a result last much longer....

clicky knees, may be patellofemoral syndrome. i have it. it's runners knee.
it's worth going to the doctors and getting it sorted out / going to a sports physio and getting it sorted. you'll get a course of exercises which you need to do. for the rest of your days. needless to say, i don't do mine all the time. -

[QUOTE=damo;439734]clicky knees, may be patellofemoral syndrome./QUOTE]
Those kind of condtitions are really vague generalisations. Patellofemoral literally means kneecap-thighbone. Its the same with "chrondomalacia patella" something which I have. It basically means some kind of pain in the knee, sort-of around the kneecap.
Anyhow, just digging up this thread because I have knee problems (tore something in my righ knee a year ago). I just tried SPD's on my fixed today, lost balance while stationary and twisted my knee nearly tearing it up again. Also nearly went through a pane of glass!
Fuck my life.

You're not a clumsy cunt who can't stay in the saddle until you've broken both collarbones, twice.
Fixed.
I don't get it. I'm not having a go, I'm just saying 'no float' might not be the only reason for dodgy knees. Do you use knee warmers?
