  • qualifiers are merely several games against shit small european countries. U.S.A. aren't much of a step up (no offence U.S.A. you did well) but because it is crunch time england bottle it.

I think we need to face the obvious, we are not that shit (although we certainly have a go a being shit) but teams like the USA are not the comedy teams they were from 10-20 years ago - in the world rankings (of 200 national teams) England are 8th and the USA are only a few places behind at 14th - by the way they press and public perception go you would think the US were down there with Belize or Tonga.

said it before and i'll say it again , we only play well against teams we've had a war against. shame iraq aren't in this. We still have time to pull this around but previous history says we won't. Gerrard looked like a captain in the first 45. heskey made some good lay offs, johnson was available but apart from that virtually no movement and that's the sign of a team that is nervous and individuals shirking responsibility. Anyone who plays football knows how easy it is to try and look busy while not going out of their way to do anything to try and win the game. I think capello noticed this mental problem when they gathered in austria a couple of weeks ago and it's finally dawned on him the enormity / impossibility of the task. If we win this he really is the best manager in the business

From my drunken standpoint (I had never even heard of a 'white sambuca' before the kick off?) it was a lot of Heskey and Gerrard, Rooney might as well have been in goal.
