SF- I'd wait for the Singular Kite...
I wanted something similar to that frame, and got it built for me.

The geometry of that Gates/Alfine looks quite a lot like my Thorn XTC, although I don't have disc brakes. It's a fantastic bike, though - I think it's probably my favourite of all the bikes I've ever owned. Nothing touches it for versatile, every-day transport regardless of load or distance.

check this German bad boy out....the picture doesn't do the size of that front rack justice...it's huge! It's a heavy bike alright, but not as heavy as it looks...
Oliver will no doubt have an opinion, but it looks like it's designed to carry three full crates of German beer...which is 30kilos of fluid, let alone the actual bottles.

I don't really have an opinion other than to note that bikes like that are not uncommon on the Continent. I used to ride these myself when I worked as a blood courier in a local hospital for my civilian service. One in particular was spectacularly durable and it took us a long time to destroy it.

on second thoughts, the three compartments might be the correct size for holding those folding plastic crates that Germans love!
-
• #107
That would be cool, as those mostly go into car boots!
-
• #108
The compartments look too small for them, though?

Look at the dutch's postal bicycle for similar design too;
more specifically the small wheels kickstand on the front which is much better than the small one from winston's picture.

Anyone know of a trike going for sale? Friend of mine (http://tatenda.co.uk/index.html) is looking for one so she can cycle to jobs, she's a chef, and does private dining and sells amazing brownies in various markets around london.

She'd probably be better off (literally) getting a trailer, cargos cost a packet.

Just saw this that may please Ed
Looks really well, and 'homemade'.

Kona smoke £200 + Xtracycle Freeradical kit £350 + £550Kona Ute £750

Kona Smoke! excellent bike and a good idea on budget too.
-
• #118
I am sorely tempted by one as a foul wether (snow/sleet) bike... But I'd have to put carbon 29er forks and HS33s on it!
-
• #119
What about the worldbike?
-
• #120
The worldbike look precisely like the old smoke (before they add the 29" wheel) apart from a horizontal dropout and 3 speeds hubs, look like a much better option than the Smoke for a fair weathered bicycle despite the lack of range the hubs have.
Add a rear rack and bob your uncle;
-
• #121
I don't think the worldbike is worth £150 more than the Smoke though
-
• #122
Dunno mate, it's only because the Smoke is on sales, the Worldbike will be likely to cost £200ish on sales in the next year.

Fuck.
FUCK.
fuckingly fuck.
fuck.
You evil cunting fucker, why the fuck have you done that?
FUCK!!
Loving the gates/alfine cycloX/touring/commuting bike.
Would like to do something similar with a roadrat/singular frame. Theres not many cycloX frames around with disc mounsts + adjustable chain tension + rack and guard mounts. I could use a 29er frame, but I much prefer the ride of a cycloX frame.
Very nice.
