I'm now considering a wider rim thanks to this talk too... since I run 28 - 32's anyway. Damn this forum makes it easy to spend time/money on bikes.
The kinlins are for the skinny tyre weight weenie crowd (ie. me). If I was running 32, I 'd agree with you and find something wider.
Get some velocity Dyads, if you can source the buggers, send me a couple too ;) (think I'm settling on these for the commuter)
