i'd like to cycle the route, never done DD before, and then, when done can help with loading and packing bikes into a van and driving it carefully and cautiously back to London.

Get bike out of van, cycle to Darsham station.
Get train to London (not a problem before DD).
Get to Hackney Fields for start of DD.
Ride DD.
Arrive at Dunwich Sunday morning.
Load van.
Drive back to London.
???
Profit.

Bonus points for leaving towels, beers, gas stoves, sausages, etc in the van for your arrival.

Or quote and remove the quote marks. This keeps any formatting (not a problem here, but there are threads where messing up the formatting can land you in serious trouble :) ).

Just to be clear, Velocio said no more after number 51, which is why the few after that have put (1st coach reserve) etc.
It has been pointed out that some above 51 have said no-coach, but this is up to Velocio to decide as its his coach.

Worth noting that damo, Clever Pun, dee-bee-one, have said that they don't need the coach but **joelovesfixed **and Sansbury's Ed have said that they are bringing "friends" so there is still a spare spot on the coach and it really needs to be overhauled as well as double checking early adopters to make sure that they're still in.

Flip - this has crept up on me - only a month-ish to go. Dragged my fixie out from behind the door this morning and rode to work as panic training. What gearing do people tend to use/recommend? (44x17 felt hard work up the hills this morning after not riding anything but my penny farthing for the last month).

Oh, and what time to get to Hackney? I can get into Euston for quarter-to-eight then cycle across for just after 8 (?) - or do I need to be there earlier than that (its an hour between trains)?

You'll be absolutely fine if you get there at 8. Lots of people leave very early these days, though. On the last one, we caught slow riders until after Great Dunmow, and fairly fast riders after Sudbury. The advised start time is 9. I think I've mostly left around 8:30 to 8:45, but I'm sure there are people who leave at 6 or 7.

I did it for the first time a couple of years ago and did so on my own. I had a great time and even chatted to a few strangers along the way.

Joe, don't drop out! I rode with a bunch of forumengers last year (including wibble) and we had a fine time, would be happy to ride with you (as long as you don't ride the lo pro)
