Well it all depends, you need to check out what cover you have, but most people on here who have looked into it seem to have home contents or specific decent bike insurance as a rule.
Hmm - I'd check. I don't know if anything could be done about it after the fact but it seems like it should definitely have been reported as a mugging (whatever that is in police speak) not a theft, but it should have been if you described it to him in the same way as us.
