+1 also cheap tubs allow people to try it, with-out spending 50+ a tyre. I guess rallys don't offer as much performance as the more expensive but they do run nice and smooth when you're used to clinchers.
Nice and smooth is something they're not. They bulge around the valve making the ride lumpy. Tried some out once, apart from the horrible ride, they don't last very long at all as they have no puncture protection.
He's obviously spent a lot of money on the bike, so why not the tyres ? All he'll feel when he rides is the annoying thump-thump-thump from the bulge at the valve
