  • Waste of time for training / riding at most of our levels.

Would want a resident physio to confirm, but those riders getting massaged daily (e.g. Pro's after stage races) help those doing the massage as it's easier to massage smooth skin.

Only time I've shaved has been for lab tests - where the tape used to stick on the monitor pads/retroreflective balls to skin will rip any hair out on removal.

Itches like fook when it starts to grow back too.

Shaving the legs does in fact promote an easier, cleaner and hygienic massage, without causing irritation to the hair follicles (which believe me can be nasty - i've seen some pretty awful "pustules" in my time oo-er). However, massaging recently shaved legs can also cause irritation due to the slight inflammation of the hair follicles post shaving.

If shaving or waxing - allow 24hrs until massage, and ask your therapist what products they use. If you can sample an area of skin before you take up a massage, you'll save yourself a whole world of trouble.
