The reason I reckon the thief might have been having an overdose is because he was shaking and had pissed himself. And the reason I suspected that he was on drugs in the first place is because he was stealing a fucking bike. How many (bike) thieves aren't junkies? A small percentage.

I feel pretty strongly about bike theft at the moment, because if it happened to me there would be no way I could replace it. There's a 99% chance I will never find another one of my frame in my size and there is no way in hell I could replace about £1000 worth of bike.

I still think you should report this to the police - should be a pretty straightforward conviction and would mean, in the fairly likely event that he won't learn his lesson, that he'll be dealt with more harshly the next time he gets caught doing it.

No sympathy for the act of thievery, but surely this is a good reminder that when you have wish harm to people light heartedly and it happens, it's not as good as you've imagined it to be, but sad instead.
