I'm building a Beater. So far I have a Venom frame from the 1990s, with 531 tubes and I've just bought some Campognpolo Triomphe cranks and ring (52T) offa Ebay. Trying my best to temper my spending to remind myself its a beater: I need it to be locked up outside for most of the day while I commute to Brissle.
I'll post piccies soon, and any advice is sought after: first road/fixed build (been riding a Plug for 2 years), and esp any cheap as frites parts. I'm currently hunting (sshhhhhh) various bits on Ebay, including old Brooks saddles, wheelset, quim I mean quill and bar (debating between flat and drops). Oh and pedals and a front brake.
I'm hoping the combination of a shabby-looking bike and a fearsome lock (Krypto forgetta or the slightly cheaper Mini D) should discourage the chavs. In Cheltenham they're still interested in MTBs anyway
