Yeah, southend as far as my memory serves me isn't really a beach, there's quite a high sea wall and the water comes right up to it at high tide I think. It might be nicer at Leigh-on-Sea, about a mile west of Southend pier. But it's basically the Thames Estuary. Not very nice.
There are these shacks that sell shellfish at Leigh. Could be a good alternative to inhaling FnC. All a bit cockles n mussels (n whelks) alive aliveo for my taste, I'm more of a langoustine man.
