Strangely enough when I did buy my spokes my LBS was cheaper than cycle basket!
Other than that I don't know.

Hi,
Just a quick double check before I order spokes as it seems a common combination.
Building Zenith hubs to Mavic Open Sport rims and have got a result from the EDD spoke calculator of 293mm for the spokes. I'm rounding this down to 292mm.
Anyone actually built this combination and can confirm the spoke length that worked for them, or confirm that the 293mm calculation is all good? I'm assuming it is and trusting the EDD calculator that's worked for me before for other rims, but thought I'd double check here too.
Cheers, Adam

pretty certain it's 292 for 32 hole 3 cross, 296 for 36, so yes. correct.
-
• #281
i used 296 front and 294 back.

292 does sound right.

Nice link. Hadn't seen that before. Thanks.
Did the 296 and 294 come up slightly long but ok for the depth of the rim? Mind if I ask why you went with those lengths? All calcs seem to say 293m and that list says 292mm ?

scratch that -- I read the chart wrong. That's where you got 296mm and 294mm from .

I got me some open sports to an On-One hub and used 292mm spokes and it was fine, pretty much the same hubs me thinks.

i'm not sure if they were too long or short or not, first pair of wheels that i built up, just got them and did it..

Went with the 292mm for both front and back from the EDD calculator.
But, front is looking very tight at the moment. Probably needs at least 294mm if not 296mm. Double walled rims will allow for an extra 2mm if 296mm is too long, so probably going to try some 296mm.
Back hub width is slightly narrower so probably fine with 294mm.
I'll report back again when wheels are finished.

I'm trying to work out the spoke length for some nondescript Shimano UG hubs.
I've tried my best with the calipers and could do with some verification.Front hub:
flange diamete - 41mm
OLD - 100mm
Flange to flange - 69mm
hole diameter - 2.5mm (ish, the calipers weren't that accurate)Rim - mavic open sport:
Spoke length = 292.3 = 292 or 293?
Rear:
Flange diameter - 45mm
OLD - 125mm
A - 45mm
B - 32
LF - 30.5mm
RF - 17.5mmRim - Mavic open sport:
Spoke length
L - 292.7 = 293mm
R - 291.7 = 292mmDoes that look right?

if i'm building a radial front (goldtech/open pro) edd says spoke length of 270.7, can i get away with 268mm spokes?
and the rear says 292.5 so 292 is right, right.

I personally round down up to 2mm. I think 2.7mm is pushing it though. Your spokes likley wont poke through the ends of the nipples notibly. But you will have less thread engaged. For a quality wheelset like this, I'd want everything optimised and get 270's.

I tried to lace some spokes which were over 2mm too short and the last spokes wouldn't even go on!

fair enough, i should probably be patient anyway, sheers for the outspoken tip as well.
was half thinking i might otrder stuff on a rush and spend the weekend building them up, but there's always next weekend!
black goldtecs, open pro CDs,
cant decide between black and silver spokes.
maybe i should find out if i can write off the cost against tax, and then go nuts and get cx rays.....

not a wheelset i will leave lying about too much.
they're black hubs, and open pro CDs so quite a stealth look, but thats not a deliberate tactic, think i'll only go for black if i go with CX rays.

I did my first wheel build recently and found that the two spoke calculators i used gave me 280.something so i rounded down to 280mm and couldn't get the tension right with the nipples all the way down the thread.
Went with some 278mm's and its bang on so i'd say always round down quite liberally, at the end of the day 2mm won't make too much difference, as long as you can get the thread to the top of the nipple and they don't end up at the bottom of the thread you should be fine.
Note - i used a rigida DP18 and on the rim database it did mention something about 3mm nipple seats when quoting the ERD so possibly that's something you should knock off the spoke calc result?

Anyone got the dimensions for Dia Compe Gran Compe front hubs? None of the online databases I have found cover the front, for some reason! I guess the flange dimensions are the same as the rear, but need a distance from centre to flange to punch my numbers into Spocalc so I can put my spoke order into cyclebasket. Cheers...

Can anybody help me out with the hub dimensions of Shimano SLX M665 front and rear hubs?
I have.....
Rear hub
center - right flange = 22.1mm
center - left flange = 35.3mm
Flange diameter = ?
Front hub
center - right flange = ?
center - left flange = ?
Flange diameter = ?
Halo Excite-R 700C rim
ERD = 588Its for a standard pair of 32 spoke 3x wheels that I need for my commuter/utility bike. I cant open SpokeCalc at home and it would help me alot if I could order the spokes, without having to wait for the hubs to arrive.
Cheers for any help :)

I had a look for the SLX M665 and it's not on spocalc or Edd.
Looks like it might have to be a self-measure job.

Cheers.
I havent found it on non Excel based calculators, and was wondering about SpokeCalc.
Thought I'd hijack this...
I'm looking for 303mm and 305mm silver spokes, but Chain Reaction and Cycle Basket don't stock them in those lengths and the only place I've found online that has them - Pedal On - sells them individually for 85p each, which means it'd cost over £60 for spokes. Does anyone have any suggestions on where I might get them more cheaply?
Thanks!
