Totally agree with this sentiment - i recently went on a bike-fitting course with the guys from CycleFit and of the 13 people in the group, 12 of us were on positions that were too low in the front. For almost everyone (it seems), we should be looking at getting the seat and bar-tops at roughly the same height, and certainly no more than a 5cm drop.
If you're very flexible and you have strong core muscles, or you're racing criteriums and don't ride for more than an hour at a time, you can probably live with the discomfort.
So Dan. I have bike-related back problems. I also get occasional knee problems. My singlespeed bike is fine at the moment - It's amazing how a 20mm shorter / 15mm higher stem can completely eradicate a severe back ache - but in future with new bikes I might need your services when you become a qualified cycle fitter, just so I can sort out measurements instead of going through time-consuming trial and error. When can I come to you and how much will you be charging?
