  • The stem is fine. Most modern frames seem to have a tiny headtube necessitating upward pointing stems for a decent fit. Even for actual race bikes:

    Totally agree with this sentiment - i recently went on a bike-fitting course with the guys from CycleFit and of the 13 people in the group, 12 of us were on positions that were too low in the front. For almost everyone (it seems), we should be looking at getting the seat and bar-tops at roughly the same height, and certainly no more than a 5cm drop.

    If you're very flexible and you have strong core muscles, or you're racing criteriums and don't ride for more than an hour at a time, you can probably live with the discomfort.
