Nes - Cool! just checked out your second route. It goes past by wife's house in Halifax. I know it like the back of my hand. If you go the other way from Ripponden to Halifax past a pub called the Fleece you get a killer hill to climb. Save that for a nice sunny day and have a pint at the top then turn right, over the moors to Buckstones and down the silky smooth road into Dopbcross and Delph.

A decentish route is out to Stockport, and cross the A6 near edgley, head along Offerton Lane towards Marple, go through Marple following signs for New Mills and then onto Strines Road, follow this to New Mills and through New Mills and Birch Vale to Hayfield.
Turn Left onto A624 towards Glossop, at top of Chunal (short but tough climb), turnn left onto Monks Lane and go to Charlesworth, left at T Junction then immediate right takes you through Broadbottom and eventually to the A57 at Mottram. Turn left and follow A57 to Manchester. About 40 miles IIRC.
38.5 so pretty much spot on. Bottled the big descent through Charlesworth... Will go back and ride up that side one day though :) thanks for the route. A.
