  • How thick would anyone like to guess that is? Scary. Shouldn't it be super hardened and stuff?

    Stainless Steel tube 48mm in diameter with a wall thickness of 3.2mm. Height (above ground) 750mm with 300mm below ground. x Overall length of 800mm.

    3.2mm wall thickness on a stainless sheffield stand (the one with detail I could find in the Architects Specifier)

    Supply cost of a sheffield stand is between 50 - 125 quid each (excluding installation, hold down bolts etc) - so in many cases the item you lock the bike to is worth less than the lock itself. Where I have had influence, I have always tried to specify heavy duty sheffield stands, but most street furniture manufacturers are more concerned with asthetics than damage resistance.

    That was the one I could find off the net mind - the OD varies considerably, but I would bet the wall thickness for 316 grade stainless tubing doesnt...
