i think a cassette hub is a much better idea than white industries double freewheel. more choice on gears, and it allows you to dial in the spacing better too. 2 chainrings is not bad as long as you have a bashguard larger than your big ring. you wouldn't be able to switch between 24 and 36 tooth chainrings on the same cog unless you have 3" dropouts.. but you could do something like 40t and 32t chainrings (depending on your chainset) coupled with 15t and 22t rear sprockets.. that would give you 72GI and 39GI with less than a cm of dropout difference on the same chain
