indeed because ti is not for everyone and despite popular myth is not the wundermetal it is made out to be. the properties of the material are actually working against making it stiff enough for some.(it's about half as stiff as steel which is why the o/d's are bigger to offset this) the high end multi butted and shaped tubes are an improvement over plain gauge and round double butted tubesets and mitigate the so called 'dead' feeling of some ti frames but the cost is very high.
'bike for life' is a myth too as you still get fatigue failures with ti and the repair cost is high. the litespeed integrated headset saga from a few years ago wasn't exactly an advert for durability.
