  • Right - camping equipment:

    1. Tent: check
    2. Sleeping bag: check
    3. Mat to put sleeping bag on: check
    4. Torch: check
    5. toothbrush: check
      6 errrr
    6. Cider
      8 thats it

    Is that OK?
Food? I think a BBQ will be in order if the weather is good, should be able to pick up some disposable ones on the island. If the weather isn't so good then I vote for pub!

  • If it is the pub, the Cedars Inn for good home made food. The Sloop Inn for closeness and cheapness.

  • pmed

    Game on!

What's the tent situation? I don't have one at present...

    Sold.

The travel cost appears to be £38pp currently. Joe/Matt, can you PM me to confirm that is ok, and I'll book tonight.

Depending on bike-space availability, I'll try to get us on the same train as kattiep's group.

  • Joe - there is some marital "tension" at the moment about this ride as it is my daughter's GCSE French oral on the Tuesday so I may not attend. If so (and I will let you know tres shortly) You can borrow mine. I'll leave it at left luggage at Waterloo on the Thursday and post you the receipt. You can collect on the day!

  • right:
quick look on line for this 4.

leave at 6.32 am from victoria. get the 18.43 back from portsmouth.
reasonable? it seems it to me.
yes/no's please, i'd like definities so i can buy the tickets this week...
    thanks.

    nice one hugh.

i hope it works out for you and you can come.

i am in the market for a lightweight one-man tent machine (really really want a hilleberg akto, but 300 quid)... may have one by then.

    how big is your tent?

let me know how things pan out.

    A yes for me.
How long, after ferry etc, does that leave us on the Isle?

edit: Just checked the times etc etc, if we get the 6.32, we can get the 10am ferry to fisbourne (40 mins). Probably not worth getting the 18.43 train back as there are engineering works on that route so the 18.32 would be better. That would mean getting the 17.30 ferry out.

That gives us roughly 11-5 which means 4 hours pedalling, 2 hours drinking. Lovely.

  • 4 hours seems about right doesn't it?
ah i was checking on cheapest tickets through trainline. and 6.32 and 18.43 work out about tenner for the whole journey, each.

also, go to ryde? as those that started ahead will be finishing there and then we can chat war stories in the pub
portsmouth - Ryde on the fastcat takes 18 minutes.

Tika/Jaygee/vee/Wools: are you on the fastcat?

  • Ryde is probably a better bet although the ferry port for the Fishbourne route is closer to the Portsmouth Harbour train station.

The whole trip: Train to and from Portsmouth (6.32 & 18.32) + the ferry to Fishbourne and back is £104 or £26 each.

  • trains arrive directly at the fastcat harbour according to http://www.wightlink.co.uk/travel-information/portsmouth.aspx

    looks like we're ok!

(i also think tika has 241 on cat ticks....)

Fair enough... seems like you have got it sorted so i shall stop sticking my oar in now!! :)

Let me know when and where i need to be and how much i need to pay.

  • @kattiep, return trains after 17:12 all have multiple changes on the Monday.

You'll be better off on the 15:12/16:12/17:12 if possible.

  • Matt, Joe, here's the sketch:

    Saturday
    15:02 Victoria-
    17:02 Portsmouth
    18:00 Ferry

    Monday
    15:30 Ferry
    17:12 Portsmouth-
    19:23 Victoria

Checked campsite availability -all good. Rate is £5pppn.
Total travel is £29.80pp - PM's on the way.

  • Excellent work, well worth a pint, I'll pop one in the post if I can get it into the same envelope as the cheque.

  • Tika/JayGee/Vee/Wools
    sorry for the slight spanner

would you be willing to wait for the 9.40 ferry

yes/no/fuck off damo stop being a spanner?

  • had a nice little chat with dropout about this last night. looking forward to this roll. not sure how it will all pan out with hooking up with various forumengers but hope to see many of you out there on the day one way or another. bright times.

  • yes y'all.^^ still waiting until just before as to whether Im bivvying at campsite night before, but looking forward to the ride, cakes and bonhomie,

  • J, I'll see if I can get a tent big enough for 3 so you can crash in with me and Pifko if you do decide to camp. Will save lugging more tents up the hill.

  • cheers hey, take it from that the other one from Poole is out then?

  • I'm out. I have a three person rather crappy tent that folds down nicely. Nothing technical but possibly Ok for a couple of evening non-serious camping. Joe - you interested?

  • i went today to victoria station to get te tickets from the machine and forgot my card. so i haven't got them yet. i' ll go again tomorrow

  • tika, are you sure you can get them now? I think groupsave can only be purchased after 6pm the day before you travel.

  • i bought them some time ago and went to get them from the machine...forgot the ccard i paid them with, nice...

  • Hi all, I expressed interest in camping some time ago and am still up for it. I'm gonna sort my travel plans/tickets etc some time tomorrow so if anyone has any info or any tickets going spare please let me know.

  • Some of my friends are driving down with bikes on a rack.... I will be dropping my tent off at theirs this week so I don't have to carry it. Happy days!
