120 miles is a fucking hard ride whichever way you do it. Fixed especially.
This^
All this talk about faster riders is a bit mute. I would thought that as long as the riders are strong enough to cover the distance, while supporting their team mates. All's good*.
(*everyone has to try and beat Hippy obviously. Even if it means going into the pain cave, opening the hurt locker, and taking a big slice of ouch cake)

Ouch cake sounds delish!

Ouch cake contains crumble.

OK, So I've been offered another team... this one will be 100% fixed ONLY, users of any userid can be in this, though slots will be allocated according to fastest and proven record of longer rides fixed.
Team + Reserves
I also think we should represent fixed but this is a race, not a ride, isn't it? I KNOW geared would be faster. I also KNOW I could complete the ride fixed.
i think it should be done fixed.
If any of the <1000 riders drop out, Id love to be on the reserve list. And I think its our duty to ride fixed. Slowly.
Fixed or you're doing it wrong.
...And what's all this talk of gears? It's not a forum organised ride, you're supposed to be there to represent a Fixed gear and Single speed forum, i'm guessing that's why Rapha approached you?...and you're talking about Gears and how fixed is too this and too that...Jeez!
if you're there to have fun, fixed is the way to go.
if the forum has a team in it should be riding fixed or ss.
Fixed! Fixed! Fixed!
Scott is right on this one, do it FG or SSI agree with Scott. If a team is representing this forum then I'd say the must ride fixed or singlespeed.
It would be like the Brompton team doing it on Colanargos. Not the reason they are being invited. It is should be done fixed.
if lfgss can't field a team of fixed riders it shouldn't get involved as lfgss

^^agreed, fwiw[/quote]
i'll be up for doing this fixed, if anyone drops out or anything.
lfgss wouldn't win it on geared anyway, why not just do it fixed because that is probably the reason we were invited, there are probably other actual cycling clubs that weren't invited even though they could actually add to the competition.

fasteddy would be another good candidate if we were looking to actually be competitive. Someone PM that speedy mofo..

sorry for going on so much, i just like fixed wheel. whoever tagged "mussolini's a brummy?" after my last post - you are the spirit of all that's good about the forum. anyway there seems to be a happy vibe emerging..
dov's spot on about the 120 miles bit. i'd like to be there helping on the day with supplies and stuff, once the teams sorted out I'd like to be there for that and i promise i would help to make the miles easier.. maybe two teams show the forum is more alive than one fixed team ever could. who else has that kind of clout with rapha?

Team + Reserves
Flattered, but i'm probably not in the top 600 fastest and/or long-ride proven riders on the forum, let alone top 6.

Is this really Brighton and back?
I'm concentrating on speed this year, not distance; so stop adding my name to lists of hypotheticals.

6) lpgTeam 2 - [no name yet]

6) hillbilly -

I think my wife would say a demand to take an entire day for this (as it'll be at least 10 hours once you include pre-post ride stuff) - in addition to the various shorter slots I have for riding/training/racing, but in place of spending time with her and my son - is 'hypathetical'. 'Hypathetically' self-centred.
And in that context, she'd be right.

Is FixedWheelNut still about? I think he only rides fixed, and I know he's done London-Edinburgh-London.
isn't the DD 120 miles? there were loads of fixed people there
