  • R.I.P. and condolences to friends and family.

Real shame, going from that link she was quite a talent too.

  • sympathies to all affected by this loss.

I hope she finds a colourful land like the ones she was creating.

    :(

  • RIP cyclist and deepest condolences. Saddened and concerened.

And as previous entries note: nothing will change until perception of drivers changes, and until the law gets on the side of cyclists.

  • Obviously no one but eye witnesses can pass judgement on how or why it happened but I cant help wonder how competent some bus drivers are.
I have been on a bus plenty of times with people driving erratically to say the least.

My thoughts go out to her family and friends.

  • This is terrible news. Its unbelivable that something like this can happen.

I think that bus drivers and taxi drivers should be made to take mental health checks at least once a year, mainly because sitting in traffic all day must take its toll on them.

    RIP.

  • Jayne was wicked. Everyone who met her would say so. She will be really, really missed.
Sending strength to her family and the people who need it right now.

  • Thanks muchly, will check it out.

The other advantage with cyclestreets is that it uses the OpenStreetMap data, which is user maintained and has specific cycling data, rather than something that is surveyed by cartographers and highway engineers who may have never ridden a bike, and almost certainly haven't tried to cycle on the roads they surveyed in normal traffic conditions.

Anyone with a gps and a web connection can update openstreetmap data, but if you are doing it for cycling, check out which tags to set, so others can benefit from your experience of the route.

  • i went to uni with jayne, absolutely lovely girl. the last time i saw her was filming this at hackney marshes. http://vimeo.com/7199178
    good times. RIP

  • I was on Oxford st that afternoon and saw the road cordoned off but didnt know what had happened.

Then the other day a mutual friend of mine and Jaynes told me what had happened.

Only met her a couple of times but was a lovely girl. RIP.

  • I work very close to where this accident happened and only saw the road cordoned off at around 6:30pm, so I searched Google to find out what had happened the next day. I was sad to find out that the cyclist had died, and was quite disturbed to find out that someone had posted a video just after the accident had happened on YouTube.

I've flagged the video as inappropriate on Friday, but it's still available online. I don't want to paste the link to the video here, but it's easy enough to find if other people want to flag it as well and get it removed by volume of consent.

    Is this actually her? RIP.

  • Yes. Jayne was an amazing person.

  • so what happens? why does the bus hit her?

  • The youtube video appears to have been removed.

I'm really up for some action on this one. This has really affected a good friend of mine.
Critical mass sounds like a great idea to me. I'll be there.

  • SoperRiver was just saying on this thread
    http://www.lfgss.com/thread16411-12.html
That it was time for another LFGSS ride inrememberance of recent fallen riders.

I found the chap on facebook and asked if he would mind taking it down - I probably had no right to ask that but knowing Youtube they would look at the clip and not necesarilly put 2 and 2 together and so not deem it innappropriate

  • really bad news about jayne.

thoughts and prayers for her, her family and friends.

i think the volume of buses on the roads is too many and unecessary and dangerous and unsustainable.

of course i will write to my mp (again).

Just a thought.. The police might have found this clip valuable as evidence?

  • Jaynes birthday is today. I have talked with some of our close friends and we would really like it if somehow this months c.m could be taken down oxford street. I don't know if there is anyone who I need to speak to in regards to this. Also could someone point me in the direction of any existing petitions and pro-forma letters in regards to road safety for cyclists and roadworks.

  • I work around to corner.. And as I've said, ride past this everyday. I will lay some flowers today.
